Rick Pitino said tonight on his weekly radio show that Gorgui Dieng has been cleared and will return to practice for the first time on Sunday afternoon. According to Pitino, Dieng will be back for the Western Kentucky game on Dec. 22. This means Dieng will be available for the Dec. 29game against Kentucky.
Coach Pitino said last week that he hoped to have Dieng back by Dec. 19 when the Cards take on Florida International. He mentioned that the FIU game was the best case scenario and that the trainers and doctors would likely suggest waiting a little longer before Gorgs returned to the court.
How Dieng responds in practice will have a lot to do when we actually seem him back on the court, but it certainly sounds like he is recovery is going very well. Louisville seems to be playing just fine without him, but the competition is only going to get tougher from here on out.
Gorgs thoughts on the good news? Uncontrollable laughter, obviously.
