Former Louisville great Terrence Williams has finalized a deal to play professionaly in China this season. Rick Pitino mentioned at his press conference early last week that last he had heard, Williams was planning to sign with a pro team in China. That became official over the weekend as T-Will  signed with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. He will reportedly earn $600,000 for one season. Williams signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons during training camp, but was waived on Oct. 22.

He posted this photo yesterday on his Facebook fan page. As you can see in the photo, former Louisville big man Derrick Caracter (back middle pointing to the sky) is also a member of the Southern Tigers.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com reports that Williams had offers to sign with a few NBA teams, but they all wanted him to play in the D-League. Guangdong’s season will end in March and he will have the option sign a prorated deal  with an NBA team and be playoff eligible.

Let’s hope T-Will will use this as a learning experience. If he plays to his full potential while in China, I expect there will be at least one team that will be interested in his services as they enter post-season play.
