The fans who have stuck around to see the last two finishes at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium definitely got their money’s worth. I would have liked to be a little less stressed out towards the end, but you couldn’t ask for a much more entertaining finish.
Louisville didn’t play a flawless game to say the least, but once again they’ve proven that they know how to win close games. Teddy Bridgewater’s performance this afternoon may land him back in the Hesiman hopefully conversation. Bridgewater finished 21-of-25 for 256 yards and two touchdowns. His arm wasn’t the only thing leading Louisville’s offense today. Teddy led the Cards in rushing with 74 yards on 10 carries.
The final drive for Louisville is just another example of how special Bridgewater is. It’s hard to believe he is just a sophomore. His poise and leadership is pretty remarkable.
Louisville’s solid defense performance in the second half against Pittsburgh didn’t carry over to today’s game. The Cards gave up 197 yards rushing and had a really tough time stopping what looked to be the same exact USF run play that was ran time after time. On the brighter note, Louisville managed to two sacks and had what was one of the more impressive goal line stands I’ve ever seen.
One thing we know is that Louisville be put to their biggest of the season on Friday night as Cincinnati comes to town for an 8 o’clock kick off. There is still a lot to improve on from here on out, but this team is 7-0 and has already matched their win total from a season ago.
We’ll have more post-game news and notes shortly.
