- The most important thing to take away from this game was Louisville’s ability to adapt at halftime. After the first drive nothing seemed to work on either side of the ball. That halftime adaptation helped the Cards find their feet on the ground and button things up on defense. The Cards held USM scoreless in the 2nd half.
- Defensive game ball goes to true freshman Keith Brown. Not only did Keith lead the team in total tackles (9) but he seemed to be in on almost every single defensive play. The energy and tenacity came through very strong and at times the rest of the guys seemed to feed off of that. Most notably another true freshman DeAngelo Brown who came up with a huge stop at a crucial time late in the game.
- Senorise Perry. What can you say about the guy? Is there a way to give him not just one game ball but every single one used in the game? Outside of the Cards first drive Perry was Louisville’s offense. Senorise finished with 118 yards and two touchdowns on 22 yards for an average of just under 5.5 yards per carry; in pouring rain. Not to be missed was Jeremy Wrights addition of 84 yards on 20 carries, but Perry was clearly the better guy for these conditions.
- Teddy Bridgewater, the glove wearing QB, left his gloves in the locker room; as did the entire receiving corp. The coaching staff made the executive decision to go without the sticky gloves as they can become slick in wet conditions. Bridgewater finished 9-13 for 85 yards with each a touchdown and interception.
- Albeit ugly the Cards still managed to be efficient in the Red Zone going 3-3 with two touchdowns and one field goal. Red Zone Scoring on the season is at 96% after going 22-23 five games in.
- Louisville had just 20 more total yards on the game (269-249) but controlled the clock substantially at 35:22 to 24:38.
- The offensive and defensive lines left a lot to be desired through much of the game. Five games in the Cards have a number of things to work on and will have the next two weeks to sharpen their skills as they progress into the seasons first bye week.

D. Mount was added the second half. Although not mentioned he also played a great game and helped hold off Southern Miss.
