Dalyn Dawkins, a 4-star running back at Trinity High School here in Louisville has a very solid Cardinal Connection (see what I did there?). The 5-foot-10 180-pound prospect is the son of former Louisville running back Ralph Dawkins, who played for the Cards from 1990-1993.
Dalyn is just one of four elite level recruits at Trinity High School this season. However, Dalyn is the only one that hasn’t been able to attract much interest from the Louisville program. As I’ve mentioned before, Louisville is pretty deep at the running back position and after signing Brandon Radcliff in 2012, a running back didn’t appear to be a need in 2013. But when you’ve got a 4-star kid in your backyard who’s father played at Louisville and are both Cardinals fans, I’d assume Charlie Strong and staff would express some interest.
If Dawkins was willing to come in and compete with all of the other Louisville running backs, I don’t see how that could hurt. I’m not saying he’d be willing to do that, but in my opinion he’s too talented to not pursue, especially considering his connection with the Louisville program.
As of last month, Dawkins was down to Illinois Cincinnati, Purdue and Colorado State. I wouldn’t be surprised if some more offers started rolling in soon. There is a lot of talent over at Trinity High School and Dawkins has arguably been the most impressive player for the Shamrocks this season.
