Bruce Feldman, a college football columnist at CBS Sports has ranked the top 10 teams with the best chance of finishing the 2012 season undefeated. Feldman has the Louisville Cardinals ranked #1 with the best shot of running the table. Below is an excerpt.
1. Louisville: Teddy Bridgewater has blossomed and a bit of buzz is building for Charlie Strong’s program. Unfortunately, the perception of the conference the Cardinals play in is abysmal these days. Even if Rutgers wins at Arkansas this week, it wouldn’t do much for the Big East. Instead, it’d be dismissed as more evidence of the Hogs freefall. So Louisville is staring at the likelihood of facing zero ranked opponents all season. They do have to visit Florida International this weekend. The Panthers beat the Cards last year, but Mario Cristobal’s squad is off to a disappointing start. The likely toughest test: the season finale at Rutgers.
Feldman’s Top 10:
1. Louisville
2. Ohio
3. Alabama
4. Florida State
5. West Virginia
6. Oregon
7. Louisiana Tech
8. Georgia
9. LSU
10. (tie) Stanford
10. (tie) Ohio State
Going undefeated won’t be a cake-walk, but the more I watch this Louisville team, the more I think it’s a possibility. Teams like Cincinnati and Rutgers will be tough games for the Cards, but with that said, Louisville will still likely be the favorite.
The thought of running the table and not having a chance to play for the national championship is a real possibility, and would be worst case scenario, in my opinion.
