Andrew Carter, the North Carolina beat writer for the News Observer has confirmed that Tar-Heels will be without star running back Gio Bernard on Saturday afternoon as they take on the 19th ranked Louisville Cardinals. Bernard went down midway through the second quarter in Carolina’s season opener against Elon and hasn’t been on the field since.
Junior running back A.J. Blue is likely to start for the second consecutive week. Blue ran for 106 yards last week in a 28-27 loss at Wake Forest, while Romar Morris, a redshirt freshman, gained 70 yards on 14 carries.
Not having a elusive playmaker like Bernard can’t help Carolina’s chances against Louisville, but even without Bernard this is still a team that will test the Cardinals.
The Tar-Heels will also be without senior wide receiver Jheranie Boyd, who will miss the game due to an injured foot.
