Jarrell Martin, a 5-star forward from Baton Rouge, LA., is expected to receive a visit from a member of the Louisville coaching staff today. With Rick Pitino and Kevin Keatts both heading to Hargrave Military Academy, I can only assume that Louisville assistant Wyking Jones is the one who will travel to see Martin.

As of last month, Martin, a 6-foot-8 hybrid forward had trimmed his list to Alabama, Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, Texas A&M and UCLA. Louisville was one of the first elite level programs to show interest in Martin and offer him a scholarship. He made a visit to the Yum! Center for the DePaul game in January and he reportedly left town very impressed with the Louisville program. Coach Pitino traveled to Louisiana just a few weeks later to watch Martin in action.

Martin has always been one my favorite prospects in the 2013 class. He’s a tremendous athlete and has a lot of upside. He has only played one season of varsity basketball at Madison Prep in Baton Rouge. Martin was ruled academically ineligible at a previous school as a true freshman. He then transferred to Madison Prep where he had to sit out his entire sophomore season. I think Martin would be a huge addition for Louisville, but I’ve heard LSU, the hometown school, will be tough to beat.

Here is Jarrell Martin summer highlight mix from CityLeagueHoopsTV.
