According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, former Louisville running back Bilal Powel l, now a member of the New York Jets has beaten out Joe McKnight for the third down running back job.
Powell played in just two games as a rookie last season but had a strong preseason with the Jets, which earned him a larger role in just his second season in the league.
Powell and McKnight battled with each other for the position during training camp, but Powell was able to create some distance towards the end of the preseason, finishing with 92 yards on 26 carries. One of the main reasons Powell was able to beat out McKnight is because of his ability to pass protect.
Prior to Charlie Strong’s arrival at Louisville, Powell was a mediocre running back, at best.
Charlie Strong effect, no?
