-Louisville was 4-0 last season when rushing for 140 yards or more in a game and 3-6 when running for fewer than 140 yards.
-The Wildcats are trying to win their sixth-consecutive season opener. If successful, it would be UK’s longest season-opening win streak since winning eight in a row from 1987-94.
-Louisville is 25-12 in non-conference action since joining the Big East Conference in 2005.
-Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips and Louisville head coach Charlie Strong coached together atSouth Carolina in 2002. Phillips was an assistant coach in charge of wide receivers for the Gamecocks while Strong was the defensive coordinator.
- Louisville hasn’t played another member of the SEC besides Kentucky since a 45-10 loss at Tennessee in 1993.
-The Cardinals set a single-season attendance records for the last two years, averaging 50,648 in 2010 and 48,538 last season.
- Thirteen of the top-15 attendances in Louisville’s history came in the last two seasons. A record 55,327 fans packed Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium for the 2010 opener against Kentucky.
- UK’s last win over a ranked team on the road was in 2002 at No. 17 Louisville. The Cats upset the Cardinals, 22-17.
- UK has a 0-2 all-time record on games played on this date.
- In Phillips’ two seasons as head coach, UK is 8-1 in games in which the Wildcats win the turnover margin; 2-4 when the margin is tied; and 1-9 when the Cats lose the turnover battle.
- The Cardinals dominated the opposition in the first quarter last season, outscoring the opposition 86-36.
- The Cardinals have been one of the best defenses in the country when it comes to keeping opponents out of the en Despite posting back-to-back winning seasons, the Cardinals’ biggest problem in the last two seasons have been the penalty bug. In 2010, the Cardinals ranked 111th in the country in penalties, averaging 7.92 infractions per game, while the Cardinals improved a little last season, finishing 96th in the country with a 6.92 average per gamed zone. Louisville ranked 17th in the nation in scoring defense last season and 18th in 2010.
- Last season, the Cardinals held the opposition to less than 300 yards in six of the 13 games last year, and have held the opposition to less than total in 13 of the 26 games with Bedford as the coordinator.
