Chip Cosby of Insight cn|2 recently put together a great documentary on the 1975 Louisville team. Denny Crum’s 1975 team lost a heart breaker to UCLA 75-74 in the Final Four. Louisville guard Terry Howard, who had not missed a free throw all season (28-for-28), missed a pair with Louisville up one and 20 seconds remaining in the game. UCLA’s  Richard Washington buried a jumper with two seconds left to give the Bruins the win.

Here are three video clips from cn|2′s documentary. Solid work as always from our man, Chip.

Unfortunately I wasn’t alive to see the 1975 Louisville team play, but I know a lot of Louisville fans consider Crum’s 1975 group as one of their favorite teams of all time.

Our pal Handsome Jimmy has called into the show numerous times mentioning the 1975 team. He insists that not only was this the best Louisville team to not win a national championship, but it’s the best Louisville team of all time. We’ll take his word for it.

  1. I was in school that year, and remember the heartbreak as we lost to UCLA. I loved that ’75 team, but never thought they were the best ever Card team, ’80 is my choice.

Also, and I never see this mentioned anywhere, but the Seniors from both schools played an exhibition game in Lexington after the season ended, I went as did many UofL fans. We lost, but to me, that was the first Dream Game.

  2. Great clips on the 1975 Cards! I followed the team through the regional in Las Cruces and the finals in San Diego. After the loss, one UK fan was saying that Card fans should root for UK in the final?!! No way!!!
