The University of Louisville athletic department sent out an official release this afternoon announcing the addition of Mangok Mathiang to the mens basketball program.
“Mango is extremely quick and agile for a 6-10 player,” said UofL Men’s Basketball Coach Rick Pitino. “He has a great future because of the way he moves at both the offensive and defensive ends. We’re excited to have him as a part of our program.”
Mathiang averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots last season at IMG Academy in Bradenton FL. IMG posted a 28-2 record in 2011-12 with a total of 12 players on the team signing with division one programs. The press release didn’t mention anything about Mathiang’s academic standing, which means he may have possibly been granted eligibility.
C.L. Brown, the UofL beat writer for the Courier-Journal will join me this afternoon “Inside The Press Box” on 1450 AM. Mango will definitely be a topic for discussion. Tune-in from 5-6 on 1450 AM or stream live at 1450TheSportsBuzz.com
