Mike Aresco, the new commissioner of the Big East conference was a guest on the Chris Vernon show on Monday afternoon in Memphis. Aresco has been making his rounds over the past week joining in on at least three different sports talk radio shows per day. During his interview with Vernon on Monday, Aresco says that the Big East will “very likely” add another member to the conference within the next year.
The conference currently has eight members for the upcoming 2012 season. With Syracuse and Pittsburgh leaving after this season, the league will expand in 2013 with the additions of UCF, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Boise State, and San Diego State, plus Navy in 2015.
BYU and Air Force have been rumored to be potential additions for nearly two years now, but the Big East hasn’t been able to get things finalized. BYU is an independent program after leaving the Mountain West in 2010. Getting a TV deal finalized could help lure BYU to the Big East.
