Former Louisville guard Chris Smith has signed a contract with the New York Knicks. Smith recently played with New York in the NBA Summer League averaging 5.2 points in 19.4 minutes per game.

According to his agent, Mark Cornstein, Smith’s deal will earn him an invite to the Knicks training camp in October. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Smith’s pro career, but he will still have to make it past training camp. The deal is unguaranteed. Smith Tweeted this picture of himself signing the contract with Knicks GM Glen Grunwald in the background.

Smith’s older brother J.R. finished the 2011-12 season with the Knicks and recently signed a new deal with New York worth $2.8 million. Chris transferred to Louisville in 2009 after two seasons at Manhattan College. He averaged 9.5 points per game in his Louisville career.
