Earlier this morning, Adidas and the University of Nebraska unveiled new TECHFIT football uniforms the Cornhuskers will wear on September 29, 2012 when they host the University of Wisconsin Badgers at Memorial Stadium. This marquee contest is Adidas’ first Unrivaled Game, an annual matchup between two of the top Adidas programs. This year’s Unrivaled Game featuring the Cornhuskers and Badgers is themed “The Quick and the Red.” Judging from the reactions on Twitter, I may be the only person in the world who actually likes these uniforms.
Charlie Strong has made it pretty clear that he prefers the traditional look when it comes to uniforms. I’m a fan of the current jerseys, but I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing back the black unis for a game or two each season. With Louisville being one of the eleven BCS football teams that wear Adidas, there’s a chance that they could potentially be asked to participate in the ‘Unrivaled Game.”
If Adidas does continue their “Unrivaled Game” I assume Tennessee, Notre Dame and Michigan would likely be their first few choices. However, I find it hard to believe schools with that much tradition would entertain the thought of making a change to their current look, even if it was for just one game.
The Louisville basketball team went with the new-age “Infra-Red” during the post season and that seemed to work out pretty well. If Charlie keeps building the program like he is, we may see these uniforms in Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium next season with a big old English L on the front of them.
