Former Louisville sharp-shooter Jerry Smith has signed a two-year deal with Allacanestro Cantu in Italy’s top-level SerieA league. Since graduating from Louisville in 2010, Smith has played professionally in both the NBDL and in New Zealand. Jerry was an all-star last season for the NBDL’s Springfield Armor, averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.

Smith was called up by the New Jersey Nets in early March and signed to a 10-day contract. He made his NBA debut with 5 points in 20 minutes against Orlando. He returned to the Armor on March 26, 2012.

In 2011 Smith averaged 17.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game with the Waikato Pistons in New Zealand.

Smith’s two-year deal with Allacanestro includes an NBA escape clause that will expire on July 25th. That means that if Jerry gets an offer from an NBA team before that date, he will be able to sign a contract without any repercussions. Smith is set to participate with the Atlanta Hawks later this week in the NBA’s Las Vegas summer league.
