Stephan Van Treese Will Reportedly Rejoin The Louisville Basketball Team

Drew Denner of 790 WKRD is reporting that Stephan Van Treese will rejoin the Louisville basketball program. Van Treese was given his release from the school on June 6^th. The 6-foot-8 Indianapolis native said he was told by Rick Pitino that he should transfer to a school where he could get healthy and play 30+ minutes a game. Pitino thought that wasn’t possible for SVT at Louisville with the addition of incoming freshman Montrezl Harrell. Pitino said as recently as last week that he advised to Van Treese to transfer to Bellarmine for a season and then potentially return to Louisville for a final year.

I’m not sure how this came about, but adding another body to the front-court will only help the depth of this 2012-13 Louisville team. Out of all the roster changes we’ve seen over the past few months, I think SVT’s departure was the most crucial. Regardless of how many minutes he receives next season, he has some valuable experience and understands his role. Expect an official announcement from the university at some point this week.
