Rakeem Buckles Will Transfer To FIU

UofL sent out a press release earlier this afternoon stating that forward Rakeem Buckles will transfer from Louisville to join the Florida International University men’s basketball team. Buckles was expected to miss the entire 2012-13 season while recovering from his second torn ACL of his college career.

“Rakeem is one of my favorites during my tenure at Louisville,” said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. “He’s just a fantastic young man who we wish great success at FIU. We will miss his personality and work ethic, but he is in good hands with Richard.”

There are lot of people implying that Buckles was “forced out” which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. If Terry Rozier doesn’t qualify, the Cards will have two open scholarships for the 2012-13 season. There was room for Buckles to stay.
