Incoming freshman Montrezl Harrell earned a gold medal last night as the USA Basketball U18 National Team defeated Brazil by a score of 81-56 in the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Harrell scored three points and grabbed one rebound.

In five games for Team USA, Harrell averaged 12.4 minutes, 5.4 points, and 4.2 rebounds. His best performance came against Mexico when he totaled 12 points and 7 rebounds in a 110-59 victory. In those five games, Harrell shot an outstanding 80% from the floor, making 12-of-15 field goal attempts. Unfortunately he was only 3-of-11 from the free throw line.

I’m not exactly sure why his minutes decreased each game, but both coaches for Team USA, Billy Donovan of Florida and Shaka Smart of VCU had nothing but great things to say about Harrell’s play over the past couple of week.
