Here is last night’s radio show in-case you didn’t get a chance to listen live. We had a briefly recapped the Georgetown win. CBSSports.com college basketball columnist Jeff Borzello joined us in the second segment to talk about Louisville and the rest of the Big East. We heard from some callers in the last half of the show and also previewed the Seton Hall game on Saturday. If you’re on your mobile device you can click here to listen.

About two weeks ago Kevin Willard’s Seton Hall Pirates looked like one of the most improved teams in the country. However, after winning 12 of 13 games, the Pirates have since dropped their last three and are 4-4 in Big East play. Louisville leads the all time series 9-5 and has won six of the last eight meetings, but the Cards have not won a road game at Seton Hall since joining the Big East. The last time these two teams met, Louisville jumped out to a 24-2 lead in the first 10 minutes and the Pirates did not score until six minutes into the game.

The Pirates are led by seniors Jordan Theodore and Herb Pope. Theodore, a 6-1 point guard is arguably the most improved player in the Big East this season. He is averaging 16 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals per game. Pope, a 6-8 forward is one of just two players in the Big East averaging a double – double with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. Sophomore Fuquan Edwin is one of the more efficient players in the country. The 6-6 combo guard is averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Edwin is an excellent perimeter defender.  Freshman guard Aaron Cosby, a Louisville native, is shooting close to 40% from behind the arc. Cosby has hit 40 3-pointers on the season.

Seton Hall has a lot of weapons. Kevin Willard doesn’t use much of a bench, but he has a core group that has played at a very high level this season. All three guards that start are capable of burying three’s in a hurry. Louisville’s 2-3 zone will have to be active on the perimeter. It’ll be interesting to see how Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan handle Herb Pope. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Pirates feed it inside early and try to get Louisville’s front-court in foul trouble.

I don’t remember seeing anything like this from Jerry when he was at Louisville.

Zach Lavine, a 6-1 combo guard from the Seattle metropolitan area recently picked up a scholarship offer from Louisville. Lavine is rated as a one of the top 20 point guards in the 2013 class by Scout.com. He currently holds offers from UCLA, Baylor, Gonzaga, Texas, California, and Washington. UCLA has been considered the front runner for Lavine for the past few months, but more schools have continued to get involved. National recruiting analysts consider Lavine to be one of the more up and coming prospects in the 2013 class.

Marshall head coach Tom Herrion has dismissed former Louisville commit Justin Coleman from the team. A press release issued by Marshall’s athletic department cited “Conduct detrimental to the program and not upholding its standards and expectations.”

Coleman was initially the prized recruit for Louisville’s 2010 class. Because he was a partial qualifier he was not eligible to play in the Big East, which led to him enrolling at Marshall in his hometown of Huntington, WV. Coleman had to sit out during the 2010-2011 season because of academic issues. This was his first season with the Thundering Herd. Coleman was considered to be one of the better athletes in Conference USA. He averaged 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 17 games.

Earlier in the season he was suspended for sending text messages on his cell phone during halftime of a game. Sounds like Louisville may have dodged a bullet with this one.

Give us a call on tonight’s show and share your thoughts on the Villanova win. Our go-to-guy for college basketball Jeff Borzello (pictured above in the Raptors jersey. Love the socks and sperries look, Jeff) of CBSSports.com will join me in the second segment to talk about this year’s Louisville team. We will also discuss the rest of the Big East. Give us a call on the Gumer and Company Buzz Line 502-384-1450 and share your thoughts. You can stream the show live at 1450TheSportsBuzz.com or you can download the 1450 The Sports Buzz app for your smart phone. The show airs every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7 pm.

Louisville commit Quentin Snider has been rated as the 9th best point guard in the 2014 class by Scout.com. Snider, a 6-1 sophomore from Ballard High School verbally committed to Louisville in August on the same night he received a scholarship offer from Rick Pitino. Scout.com’s national recruiting analyst, Evan Daniels, updated his national rankings for the 2014 class earlier this morning. Snider is rated as a 3-star prospect. Rivals.com rates him as a 4-star.

Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano is reportedly working on a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that will make him their next head coach. Schiano has been at Rutgers since 2001.

This is just another sign that from a football standpoint, the Big East is falling apart. Schiano is the currently the longest tenured football coach in the conference. If Schiano does in fact leave Rutgers, Charlie Strong will be tied with Butch Jones and Skip Holtz as the longest tenured coaches in the current Big East conference. Schools are leaving and coaches are bailing. Saying that this league is on its last leg is an understatement.

Like most Louisville fans my age, I grew up in the later days of the Denny Crum era. As a youngster, I would shoot three-pointers in my driveway and pretend like I was DeJuan Wheat. I used to throw down ferocious slam dunks on my nerf goal as if I was Marques Maybin. At the age of seven, i knew very little about football. However, I knew Ron Cooper wasn't the answer. I launched the site in May of 2010 and the rest is history. I am also the co-host of The Cardinal Connection radio show on 1450 The Sports Buzz here in Louisville, KY. Email Me
